Haydos (Haydn Yates) regularly plays at nightclub venues and events around SA. He is one of the founders of Rivaz Nightclub in the Riverland. His involvement in the nightclub scene, event operations and promotion is extensive.

But his real passion is Electronic Digital Music.

CD's were invented in 1981. I don't use them. Much in the same way that nobody goes jogging with their Discman anymore. Some DJ's might criticise using a laptop in your set, but in no way is this any different from a vinyl DJ criticizing CD's. And you don't hear that much anymore... because they've all come around :) Like or hate features like beatlock, keyed mixing; they're here to stay. Avoid them and fall behind, or embrace them and progress. Bad DJ's will rely on them; progressive DJ's will use them where they can to free themselves up; throw in acapellas, loops or effects that they wouldn't have had time for. And music technology will continue to move forward further still in years to come; you either run with it or you don't.I'm not afraid of the stigma that comes with using a laptop. Regardless of what others think, you should get up there to play the best set know you can possibly play. With the right software/hardware combination, you can do almost anything you can think of; things that just can't be done with standalone CD or Vinyl decks. There is a definite beauty in watching someone throw down a perfect set on CDs, or scratch with vinyl, but there are still definite limits to what can be done. And at the end of the day, we all know it's about what you play, and not how you do it.

This software industry-leading, and can be mapped to any USB controller out there, Pioneer CDJ400/900/2000, Denon, MAudio, Vestax etc etc. Whatever you like, plug it in, and it works. You can also map VDJ to any older controllers like CDJ800/1000 or Turntables; by using the I/O Audiofire2 Soundcard.I also use Mixed-In-Key; which harmonically keys each song. And I polish any song that makes it to my 'final' library with Platinum Notes, which normalizes volume, enhances treble/bass and removes all clips. Is all this making it too easy? Then why aren't you doing it? Ask yourself where the electronic music industry would be if DJ's hadn't embraced CD's. Everyone would still be spinning on vinyl. No problem of course... but no progress either! Everyone comes around eventually, and opens their eyes up to new possibilities of what can be accomplished.
